When you step off the street and enter the hot dog joint, you have to find your way through a secret entrance to get to this new bar. No, it’s not PDT in New York and you’re entering via a Coke machine door and not a phone booth, but you get the idea.
Inside the bar is stripped back and designed to look like a disused soda factory; the island bar that centres the room will be familiar to anyone who can remember a night at the old Mars Lounge, which used to occupy the site.

The much-anticipated opening of the Wild Rover, after a couple of setbacks, is finally here. Opening at the end of next week, the two-level bar from James Bradey and Warren Burns (owners of Grandma’s) will hold 120 people, with the same drinks and food across both levels — downstairs it’s expected will be a quieter affair, and upstairs, with a plan down the track to have live music, is expected to be a little more boisterous.

James Miller and James Wirth have certainly made another good move on the Sydney bar scene with this latest opening coming ‘on-line’ just as 2010 came to an end. A short walk from Central Station and within a stones throw of venues like the Sydney Football Stadium and the Belvoir St Theatre to name a couple, The Norfolk Hotel is providing Surry Hills with a great option for a night out.
