Level 2, 163-169 Oxford St, Darlinghurst

It looks like the slow march to revitalise Oxford Street has just got a boost with the opening of Carousel, a cabaret-inspired ’70s discotheque vibe. With a roster of top-notch DJs and club acts, and carefully curated cocktails, it’s a haven for clubbers.
Carousel Bar and Ballroom is brought to you by Sydney party collective, S.A.S.H., the team behind Darlinghurst bar Stanley’s on Stanley and the now defunct Sly Fox Hotel, which closed down in 2020.
With the crafty styling of design impresario Michael Delany (The Abercrombie, Vermuteria, among others) Carousel is a rebuild of one of Oxford Street’s oldest hot spots that once housed Byblos, Miind Club and, more recently, Nevermind. The name “Carousel” came up thanks to the discovery of a rotating stage, which they unearthed during renovations.
Sound and lighting needs to be bang on in the clubbing world so the team has installed a state-of-the-art sound system – a FunktionOne – with 33 speakers littered throughout the venue, including the bathrooms. They have unique lights imported from Amsterdam that you won’t find anywhere else in the country.
The venue will trade as a small bar on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the nightclub heating up Thursday through Sunday.
